We took the old Circuit City building (across from Trader Joe's) and converted it into a theatre, dance and music art center. You are invited to come by and tour our four, large studios and meet the staff.
Jazz
Perhaps the most indefinable of dance forms, jazz has something for everyone. Classes at Peninsula Dance Conservatory definitely have a Latin Salsa Flair as Norberto Martinez combines his expertise in all things south of the boarder with his firm foundation in ballet, modern and American jazz techniques. High energy, fluid but sassy movements make this a favorite for all ages 10 and up.
Mexican Folkloric
Mexican Folkloric with Norberto Martinez - In this introductory class, Students will be transported to the colorful, energetic and expressive world of Mexican folk culture. Learn about the traditional dance and music from Mexico, emphasizes local folk culture and native dances combined with ballet characteristics - pointed toes, exaggerated movements, highly choreographed with many elements of American tap as well as flamenco. This high paced energetic class is taught at an introductory/elementary level for those 12 years old and up.
Ballroom
Formerly from Philadelphia, PA. Daniel Singer has been dancing and teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past eleven years. A former Pro-Am Competitor, Daniel trained extensively in American-Style Ballroom dance from many notable professionals and coaches in the field. Daniel's classes includes American Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Bolero, American Rhumba, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Samba and many club dances such as, The Nightclub 2-Step, Salsa, Merengue, Hustle, Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Argentine Tango. Daniel's philosophy and teaching style has attracted a growing number of students who appreciate learning social ballroom dancing in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Mambo
The Mambo is one of the most sensual and emotional Latin American ballroom dances. Swaying hips, arm movements and holds all add to the sensuality of the dance.
Originally from Cuba, the Mambo is enjoyed throughout the world at both the social and competitive dance levels. This dance is a favorite of ballroom audiences because of its high energy level and infectious rhythms. Popularized over the years by singers and bandleaders such as Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Ricky Martin, the Mambo is fascinating and diverse. The popular Latin dances Cha-Cha and Salsa were both conceived from the Mambo!
Rumba
The Rumba originated in Cuba and is known as the "dance of love." Danced to romantic, Latin love songs, it is fun and quite easy to learn. This dance is considered by many to be the most romantic and sensual of all Latin ballroom dances, it tells a story of love and passion between partners.
The Rumba spotlights the lady's rhythmic body movements and hip actions, this distinctive hip movement, called Cuban Motion, is a very important element of the dance. The hip movements and characteristic sways of Cuban Motion are generated by the bending and straightening of the knees.
The intensity of the Rumba is increased by sharp eye contact that is maintained between the man and the woman. The dance of love is one of the most popular ballroom dances and is seen around the world at nightclubs, parties, weddings and dance competitions.
Zumba
Nathan Cottam brings a new fresh flair to the traditional Zumba class. Let the music be your inspiration as you follow Nathan through 60 minutes of dance movement to the infectious beats of salsa and Merengue. Feel like a dancer without ever having had a dance class. More like a party than a workout, you will actually forget you are doing aerobics!
Belly Dance
Learn this ancient dance from a working professional artist. Course work consists of music history, cultural context, technique, muscle isolation, posture, choreography, flexibility, and strength training. Empower yourself by learning to dance in a fun and supportive environment. Adriana's program has been inspiring artistry and confidence in students for over a decade. Professional belly dancer and teacher, Adriana was born and raised in California, Adriana has been dancing professionally for 10 years. After years of ballet and jazz classes, she began exploring the movement and musicality of Latin, Afro-Caribbean, Brazilian, and middle eastern styles of dance. Today, she is an avid student of many styles of folk dance and has shared her knowledge as a teacher with a strong foundation of core movement, musical interpretation, and performance skills.
