The Peninsula Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance
The Peninsula Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance is dedicated to bringing quality dance education to the Bay Area. The Conservatory’s mission is to provide our students the best training available and to enhance self-confidence, poise and positive work ethic while maintaining a healthy, fun atmosphere.
Ballet classes are based on the Russian Vaganova training system, and all faculty members have a degree in dance and/or have danced professionally with major companies. Jazz, hip-hop, modern and other classes are taught by professionals with extensive performing experience, including a variety of Broadway productions.
The Peninsula Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance offers two divisions: the Pre-professional and the General Divisions.Age groupings are general guidelines. The talent, strength and dedication of each dancer are considered when determining appropriate classes.

Bruce Steivel
Conservatory Artistic Director
As Director for the Conservatory, Bruce Steivel brings a wealth of experience teaching and managing ballet curricula on both a national and international scale. He continues to be a widely sought teacher and coach throughout the world including guest engagements in Tokyo, Japan, Norwegian National Ballet, Vienna State Ballet, Vienna Volks Opera, Virginia School of the Arts, National Ballet of Ecuador, Interlochen School of the Arts, Het National Ballet, Cuba Ballet, Hungarian National Ballet, Den Norske Opera, Hong Kong Center for the Arts, Deutch Opera Am Rhein, Berlin Straatsoper, Istanbul Conservatory, Nederlands Dans Theatre, Bat-Dor of Israel.
His teaching style and philosophy reflects the expertise he gained by studying under some of the greatest names in modern ballet history including: George Balanchine, Robert Lindgren, Leon Danileon, Vicente N, Alexandra Danilova, Duncan Noble, Anton Dolin, Job Saunders, Andre Eglevsky, Ben Stevenson, Jiri Kylian, Sonja Tyven, Pauline Koner, Hans Van Manen, David Howard and Stanley Williams.
Mr. Steivel's management of two 500-member ballet schools provides the Conservatory with a sound foundation of experience and excellence that produces students ready for a professional career. His passion for the arts instills a love for discipline and creativity in students of all ages and capabilities.
Alyssa Bond
Tap
Alyssa was born in Sammamish, Washington and began her early dance training at The Dance Studio and continued to study tap, ballet, jazz, and musical theatre with Washington Academy of Performing Arts under director Deborah Hadley. After moving to California, Alyssa received her Bachelor's of Arts degrees in Dance and Drama with an emphasis in Performance and Choreography. She has performed musical theatre productions around the Bay Area with various theatre companies and has choreographed productions for Diablo Theatre Company, Golden State Theatre Productions, and Alameda Civic Light Opera. Being an advocate for arts education, Alyssa has dedicated her professional career to advancing dance and theater for students of all ages. She holds her Teaching Credential in Physical Education and has taught dance for Hayward and Mount Diablo Unified School Districts and several dance studios.
Norberto Martinez
Jazz
Norberto was born in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. He is a graduate of the Instituto Mexicano de Artes and Instituto de las Bellas Artes of Merida, Yucatan. Norberto is trained in Modern Dance and Classical Ballet as well as Mexican Folk Dance. His interest is learning and performing all types of dance. He has performed professionally in Europe, South America, Mexico and The United States as a principle dancer of Jorge Faz Dance Company and Ballet Foklorico from the University of Merida Yucatan in Mexico. He has the prestigious honor of being one of the Resident Choreographers of The Presidio Dance Theater under the Directions of Sherene Melania.
Amanda McGovern
Ballet, Repertoire, Pre-Pointe, Variations, Modern, Creative Movement
Amanda McGovern has a BA in Performance and dances with Peninsula Ballet Theatre. Her teaching experience in the Bay Area spans six years at various dance studios including ODC, Lines Ballet School, Civic Arts Education, Berkeley Ballet Theatre, Stage One, Danville Ballet and SOLAD. Amanda has toured nationally and internationally with Nevada Ballet Theatre, Lisbon Dance Company in Portugal, Oakland Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Moving Arts Dance and more. She has worked with notable contemporary choreographers Viktor Kabaniaev, Robert Moses and Yannis Adoniou. Amanda also creates and performs solo choreography for events. Originally from Petaluma, her training began with Deborah Palesch and Ann Derby. She won many scholarships and studied at Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Ballet West and ODC. She was a recipient of the Jason Robins Dance Scholarship in 2005 and is a certified Gyrotonic Instructor.
Melinda Neal has performed with contemporary companies New Trails Dance Theatre, Udance Electra, as a founding member of Napoles Ballet Theatre, with classical companies Solano Civic Ballet, Oakland Ballet Academy, and as a guest artist with California Youth Ballet. She co-owned The Dance Network in Fairfield, California and was Artistic Director of Halal Ballet Theatre. In addition to teaching she will graduate from St. Mary's College LEAP program with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2010.
Peninsula Ballet Theatre offers dance classes in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Folklorico, Ballroom and Zumba. New classes are being offered every month!
Serving the San Mateo Peninsula with adult and children's dance classes, including Burlingame, Hillsborough, Millbrae, San Bruno, Foster City, Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City, Redwood Shores, Menlo Park and Palo Alto.
