Education and Outreach Events
Proud recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Arts Education in American Communities.
Countless studies have shown that arts education is essential for developing fully formed, well-rounded students. Students exposed to both the applied and performing arts learn valuable skills in the areas of critical thinking, spatial acuity, creative problem solving and social interaction. These skills are optimal to insure future success in any discipline or career.
With arts education budgets being slashed or eliminated in so many school districts, Peninsula Ballet Theatre is committed to helping educational institutions provide students with opportunities to experience and learn about dance through our educational outreach program, Everyone Dances! Specific learning goals are set in accordance with both California and national core curricula standards for learning in the arts. In fact, of our high school program of two full semesters qualifies for University of California transfer credits. Classes offered include any mix of ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip-hop and world dance utilizing world music traditions and rhythms from Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern and Western Europe.
Working with each school, PBT offers a variety of programs designed to allow students of all ages and abilities to explore dance arts and give them creative learning opportunities they may not otherwise receive in their academic career. Programs can be designed to be from one hour – one day per week to five – five hours per day immersion programs. Students come to our professional studios or our professional dance instructors go to the school or after school program.
Please call us if you are interested in learning how PBT can service your school.
See what these students from Summit Charter High School and Everest Public High School have been able to accomplish. Each year up to 28 students, most with no former dance training or experience, complete the Everyone Dances! program with a 40 minute performance for their fellow students, teachers, family and friends. One of the most important lessons they learn is that each of them has a creative core and hard work and determination almost always pays off.
STEM to STEAM – PBT Plays its Part
Education is one of the most important parts of all of our lives. It is a life long endeavor that incorporates so many different facets. Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) are critically important educational components that are currently receiving much deserved attention in public school curricula. Creativity is another educational component that transforms STEM to STEAM, Science Technology Engineering, ART and Math. Creativity is one of the keys that has always given the United States the critical edge that has historically positioned us as #1 in world markets. STEM got Apollo 13 to the moon but it was STEAM that returned those astronauts safely to earth. We do not want to loose our creative class and we need arts education to help nurture that part of the brain.
Peninsula Ballet Theatre Conservatory is very proud of the part we play in nurturing creativity by providing performing arts training that transcends just passing along technique. Life skills such as aspiration, tenacity and discipline, are skills that all of our students take with them in any life career they may choose. We are very proud to be a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant in support of our outreach program Everyone Dances! Originally designed as dance immersion program that satisfied the arts education requirement for admissions to University of California; we have modified the program to suit the needs of any age group. Our quarterly Performing Arts Camps are week long programs that are suitable for all ages 4 and up. They are held during winter, spring, summer and fall breaks and include classes in all genres dance, acting, singing and arts & crafts. We also offer year round classes that meet weekends and after school. We invite you to visit our website to explore the many options that provide the missing link from STEM to STEAM.
Thank you to the National Endowment for the Arts for their support of our programs.
Peninsula Ballet Theatre has consistently performed the classic ballet, Nutcracker since 1970. We are proud to be the oldest ballet company on the Peninsula and thrilled to be going strong.
