Perform in the Nutcracker
Important information, please read carefully!
We're so excited that your child is interested in being part of Peninsula Ballet Theatre's Company production of Nutcracker! Your student may be cast in one or more of the following performances of: Nutcracker Sweet and/or Nutcracker at the Fox Theatre.
Required for the Rehearsal
Must wear leotard or comfortable dance clothing (leggings and t-shirt or tank top) with appropriate dance shoes. Students on pointe for at least 1 year should bring their pointe shoes.
Must have hair in ballet bun or clipped away from the face if hair is short.
Student and Parent Contracts must be signed after cast list is released.
About Lead Roles
We understand that all little girls dream of playing the role of Clara in Nutcracker (just as all professional ballerinas dream of being cast as the Sugar Plum Fairy!) Being cast as Clara requires ongoing dedication to their ballet studies at PBT and we do cast an advanced PBT student in this role. There are many roles for students in Mother Goose, Battle scene, Party scene, and other Act 2 divertissements. We look forward to meeting your student at rehearsal in September!
Peninsula Ballet Theatre
Who is invited to audition?
Any child 7 or older may participate. You must register, enroll and attend at least one technique and performance class combination at PBT. For current class schedule and enrollment information please click here
What is the cost to participate?
The Participation fee is $365. The fee covers all costuming needs and rehearsals and includes a DVD of the performance. We do discount if you have more than one child participating. Participation fees must be paid by September 1st. No refunds on participation fees. There may be an additional fee to cover the cost of cleanup if your student performs at the Fox Theatre.
What are the parent obligations?
Families are required to help during shifts. Shifts are available during rehearsal time, the week prior to the performances at PBT and the Fox, during Sweet and Fox Theatre performances and packing/unpacking after the Fox. ALL FAMILIES must help with theater pack-up at PBT on Sunday, December 15th. This takes no more than one-two hours when all families help! The shifts needed at the theater (either Sweets or at the Fox) will be approximately 10 - 15 hours total per family.
Shifts are available with wardrobe, stage hands, dressing rooms, boutique sales, props, flyers, program ads, special events and coordination.
Details about the shifts, sign-ups, options available if you are not able to help during shifts, etc. will be discussed at the Parent Meeting on Saturday, September 7th at 2 pm.
When do rehearsals start?
Rehearsals begin Saturday, September 7th. Students will be learning choreography and technique related to Nutcracker in their performance studies classes. Rehearsals are typically scheduled between 1:30 and 5:30 pm and are subject to change. All schedule changes will be emailed.
How many rehearsals are we allowed to miss?
There is limited rehearsal time available for productions and students should really strive to be at every rehearsal. More time spent in rehearsal can mean a larger part for your student. If your child is absent due to an illness you will need to contact the children's performance coordinator as soon as you know they will not be able to be at rehearsal.
How long are rehearsals?
Plan for at least one hour per scene assigned.
When are tech/dress rehearsals?
Tech/Dress for Sweets is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6th.
Tech/Dress rehearsals at the Fox will begin December 17th and usually run between the hours of 4pm - 9pm.
The youngest participants are released from tech/dress rehearsals as early as possible.
How will we be notified of the rehearsal schedule?
The student cast manager will email all rehearsal schedules.
When are the performances?
December 7, 8, 14, 15 at PBT's Studio One Theatre.
December 20, 21, 27, 28 at Fox Theatre in Redwood City.
Please note that some students may be scheduled to perform specific dates and times. This is at the discretion of PBT casting. Even if your student is cast for certain dates/times, they must be available for all performances.
