FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can my child come try a class before enrolling?

Yes! Based on our age guidelines and your child's prior dance experience, they can take the class that seems most appropriate. Check the class descriptions for more information on each level. Placement classes can be scheduled online here. After your student attends their placement class the teacher will determine the correct level for your child. Please plan to be at PBT 15 minutes before the class start time to sign our paper waiver. Placement class fee is $20 per hour and all placement classes must be booked online or with our Conservatory Director prior to class. Your dancer can wear anything easy to move in. If they do not have ballet shoes they can wear socks and/or borrow a pair of ballet shoes from our studio. If your child has never taken a ballet class they should come to the class within their age range.

How do I enroll, do you accept enrollment year-round?

We offer year-round enrollment in all levels. It's never too late to join! You can either enroll online here, or email us at conservatory@peninsulaballet.org

Are classes limited to the age group listed on the schedule?

The ages listed on our schedule are a guideline. Most students in the classes fall within the age range listed, however, that does not mean that it is limited to that certain age group! Specific placement will be based on the dancer's ability.

Will there be performance opportunities?

All students (including Pre-Ballet and Hip Hop classes) are invited to perform in our end of the year Showcase in June. All students ages 7+ who are enrolled in Performance Studies will have opportunities to perform in Nutcracker with our professional company, and a Spring production in April. Performance Studies Level 2 - 4 are also invited to perform in our Petit Cabaret in October and February. Students have the opportunity to join our many community performances such as the County and City Fairs, Chambers of Commerce, and school outreach. PBT believes that performances are important and integral components of each student's training.

What are the tuition rates?

There is an annual registration fee of $80 when enrolling, the registration fee includes one leotard. Tuition is based on the number of hours your student is in class per week. Our 2019-2020 season begins on July 8th, 2019. There are 47 weeks of classes in our conservatory calendar from July 8th - June 26th, 2020. Our tuition calculation is 47 weeks of class x hourly rate based on the number of hours in class per week divided by 12 equal monthly payments. You may wonder why you're paying for a full month of December when there are only 2 weeks of classes in the month. Rather than charge different amounts every month (5 week months would be very expensive!) we find that it is easier to charge a lower monthly rate by using our weeks x class hours/12 payments calculation. Students are not allowed to attend class if their tuition has not been paid. Please note! We will be closed Thanksgiving week, this week is not factored into tuition and no make-ups are offered for Thanksgiving week. Tuition is not refundable.

Please see the calendar for our conservatory days off. Tuition will be prorated for those that sign-up mid-month, on average each month covers 4 weeks of classes.

Is there a uniform?

Each class has a required uniform. All uniforms and shoes can be ordered from PBT. DO NOT buy your uniform until you have been placed in the correct class by PBT teachers.

2019 - 2020

Current Students: Uniforms will be announced after the first week of class. Classes begin July 8th. All students must be in their correct uniform by September 30th. One leotard will be included with your registration fees. For two or more classes per week we recommend two leotards and two pairs of tights. All ballet students must wear pink, leather ballet shoes or pink stretch canvas ballet shoes for all ballet classes.

  • Boys' Uniform: Black shorts or pants with white t-shirt, black or pink leather ballet shoes. Please note that all classes at PBT are co-ed.

  • Pre-Ballet: Pink cap-sleeved Mirella leotard (style number M515C). Full-sole leather ballet shoes required for Pre-Ballet.

  • Hip Hop: athletic shorts or pants (no jeans), t-shirt or tank top. Tennis shoes.

Ballet Students - (Students in Performance Studies classes may wear wrap skirts during Performance Studies class time)

  • Beginning/Level 1: Lilac Mirella M515C

  • Elementary/Level 2 : Uniform TBA

  • Intermediate/Level 3 : Uniform TBA

  • Advanced/Level 4: Uniform TBA

  • Apprentice: Black Mirella Leotard - M415LD

Pointe shoes: Level 3 and 4 Students Only - After your teacher approves you for pointe shoes we recommend that you make an appointment at SF Dance Gear for a pointe shoe fitting. DO NOT sew ribbons or elastics or wear your shoes until your teacher checks your shoes in class. They are not returnable if there is any sign of wear.

I think my student is in the wrong class level, what should we do?

In most cases, we will recommend that they take a placement class in one level higher and give that teacher an opportunity to evaluate the student. We base student placement on age/maturity and ability. Please see our class descriptions here. In some cases students will move up mid-year, we do not have arbitrary graduation dates. Our teachers will always do their best to make sure your student is in the correct class level based on their current skill set and needs. As soon as a student shows they are ready to move up a level we will contact the student's family to get them enrolled into their new class.
